Destination Isolation Insights by MLB Pro

Vol. 1: Strategic Distancing, both Physical and Mental Health

Logan Morrison is a professional baseball player for the Milwaukee Brewers. Logan’s love of travel and adventure makes him the ideal client of D. Alexander. One of the ways in which Logan prepares in the offseason is to travel to his favorite destinations. He loves the ocean, the beach, and the mountains. He loves to get away from the grind of professional sports to rejuvenate, relax, and spend time with his wife and kids. With the recent pandemic, travel took on a whole new meaning for him and his family.

D. Alexander recently caught up with Logan regarding his stay at our Destination Isolation retreat in Sedona, Arizona.

You grew up playing baseball. How has baseball and the discipline of playing professional sports helped you during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Playing any sport at a professional level requires not only physical discipline, but a mental regimen that keeps you going when your body is wanting to quit. Recent news articles have reported on how many people are unfortunately struggling with depression and physical ailments from being in quarantine. I think the physical and mental demand of being a professional athlete has helped during this scary time. My hope is that those who are sheltering-in-place stay healthy both physically and mentally because it can be a real challenge at times. I am grateful for my athletic training, as I feel it has helped me during this time of pandemic.

“Peak performance is all about focus, drive, and the willingness to commit to achieve the highest level of success, no matter the cost.”

Did all the travel with baseball give you the travel bug?

Baseball has given me the incredible opportunity to travel. I am an adventurer by nature, so I am always up to explore and get out to see things I have never seen. The fact that there is so much to see and places to explore, we have an obligation to take care of our planet--not to abuse it--so that future generations can do the same. I think my travel bug comes natural. I am a military child, so constant moves and new places were the norm in my life. This is probably why in my journey to the pros in baseball, with the constant travel and the many places I lived, I never got homesick. As they saying goes, ’Home is where the heart is.’ So, as long as I have my wife and kids and a cool place to stay, it’s all good.
